Candidate Jamie Dorris faces unethical opponent
Annie's List endorsed candidate
Jamie Dorris
(HD 113) is facing an election against not only Rep. Joe "No Show" Driver, but now another side - that of
Joe "Double-Dip" Driver -
has emerged as well.
According to an interview released by the Associated Press today, Rep. Joe Driver, R-Garland, is accused of
billing the state twice for travel - and keeping the extra funds for himself.
"Faced with findings from an investigation by The Associated Press, he acknowledged in an interview that for years he has been submitting the same receipts — for luxury hotels, airline tickets, meals, fees and incidentals — to both his campaign and to the Texas House of Representatives.
He has also been collecting thousands of dollars in state mileage reimbursements for travel in vehicles for which his campaign has shelled out more than $100,000 since 2000," the article states.
Driver has commented on the findings, saying, "Well, it pretty much screws my week." Well, Rep. Driver, we hope to prove that scandals like this are not acceptable for the taxpayers of Texas nor the citizens of your district - which is why we're supporting an ethical, responsible choice for HD 113 -

Annie's List Profiled on News 8 Austin!
Annie's List Deputy Political Director
Genevieve Van Cleve
and endorsed lawmaker
Rep. Diana Maldonado
were interviewed for a
in-depth piece on News 8 Austin
.
Speaking of the work Annie's List does, Genevieve states that, "Annie's List endorsed candidates account for two-thirds of net gains in the House since 2006.
Getting rid of women in the Texas Legislature is not good policy, and it's
not good for Texas families."
Maldonado notes that a female presence on the floor helps better protect families, education policies and the environment. "It's about the presence of authority,” Maldonado said. “To say 'Hey, it's a different perspective and we need to have a voice.'"
Congratulations to Rep. Maldonado and the 20 other ladies, who, with your support, Annie's List has help elect and relect to Texas politics since 2003.

We made it! Over $500,000 to local, women candidates!
CONGRATULATIONS! WE DID IT!
On June 3
rd
, we issued you a challenge – help us raise another $250,000 in matching funds to our endangered incumbents and endorsed challengers
.
As of June 30th at midnight, ALL of our ladies had hit their individual fundraising goals
- that's $500,000 going to local, women candidates.
A half a million dollars is something to be proud of - and it's fundraising you've done, whether by
passing our message along to friends
,
recruiting supporters
or contributing yourself.
It’s incredible to think of just how much an inspired, energetic group can accomplish in just one short month!
Your support has given our women candidates the resources they need to power through the summer months knocking on doors, calling voters and stockpiling a war chest for the expensive last months of the campaign.
As we round another corner on this critical election cycle, we wanted to take the time to let our strongest supporters - like you - know how much we appreciate what you've done and continue to do to change the face of power in Texas. Thank you!

Central Texas Luncheon Best Yet
The Annie's List
2010 Central Texas Luncheon
went off without a hitch on Thursday, April 1st at the Hilton Downtown Austin. Over 600 guests attended to hear keynote speaker
Kathleen Kennedy Townsend
speak about her life in politics and the broadening role women can have in shaping the future, helping to make it our most successful Central Texas Luncheon to date!
Also in attendance was "Face of The Year" honoree
Andrea White
, who gave a gracious and motivating acceptance speech. The event opened with a welcome from Annie's List Endorsed Lawmakers
Rep. Valinda Bolton, Rep. Donna Howard
and
Rep. Diana Maldonado,
recognizing the many political faces in the room, including Annie's List Endorsed Candidates
Loretta Haldenwang
(HD 105),
Kendra Yarbrough Camarena
(HD 138)
and
Diane Trautman
(Harris County Tax Assessor).
Luncheon Co-Chairs
Aimee Boone
and
Patsy Woods Martin
did a wonderful job of spreading the word, and Annie's List's own Deputy Political Director
Genevieve Van Cleve
rose to the stage to give a beautiful and fitting tribute to Democratic activist and women's rights champion
Liz Carpenter.
The luncheon was closed by Annie's List Endorsed Lawmaker
Sen. Wendy Davis,
who emphasized how much it meant to her to have Annie's List in her corner when she was running for office as a first-time legislative candidate. Her final call to support brought on cheers and applause from all in the ballroom.
Missed the luncheon? There's still an opportunity to support and get involved in the Annie's List mission!
